OH-ME-OH-MY, LOVE THAT APPLE PIE...AND BOB!
What!? The sound was horrid?! I hadn't noticed. (Of course, whenever I am at a Dylan concert I am way too excited to notice details like that.) Hubby and I had just been to the historic and thrilling election-night concert at the Northrup, and while I knew that one could not be topped, this concert had a totally different feel (kinda like comparing apples and oranges)...much more mellow. And then we got to hear one of my favorites, "Watching the River Flow"...(wait a minute...they are ALL my favorites!)
We had so much fun, as always, meeting other fans before and after the show. First we stopped at "Jimmy Johns" to share a sandwich before the concert and I saw a concert poster on their wall. I was just commenting to Hubby how I should have that, when in walked three 20-something guys, pointing at it as they sat down in the booth next to us. "Oh, no, you don't!", I said, "that poster is mine!" I then walked up to the employees and asked if they still needed it, haha, and they said no, take it. That started a conversation with the three guys, and we learned that one of them was seeing his 30th Dylan concert. Not only that but he and his wife (who got left at home because she was about to have a baby) had met at a Dylan concert, had their first date at a Dylan concert, got engaged at a Dylan concert, and, when they got married, played only Dylan songs. His wife, he said, had seen Dylan 35 times, including Paris and London. Wow, I thought, that is a lot of Dylan concerts in their short lives.
Then, seated behind us at the show was a 50ish couple who had never seen Bob before. Well, we told them, you are in for a treat! Afterwards, we asked them what they thought...would they see another? FOR SURE! And the woman kept saying, "He is SO CUTE!" over and over. Exactly!
Bob is: cute, funny, humble, sexy, charismatic, a genius, and endlessly fascinating. To see him live is always a thrill and a privilege, and we will continue to see him whenever he is within a day's drive. Again I say, "what? the sound was horrid? I hadn't noticed"...

Not impressed - sound was horrid
OK, so I'll admit that I've never been to a Bob Dylan concert before, though I have listened to a fair amount of his music. As a singer / songwriter it seems to me that that Dylan's lyrics are often filled with meaning and poetry beyond most musicians and I was looking forward to that aspect of the performance.
What a disappointment! The sound at this concert was horribly out of balance with the music drowning out the vocals. Worse still, the voice channel was so distorted that even when there was NO music (such as the announcer at the beginning of the concert) you couldn't understand a word that was being said. I suspect the problem may have been a combination of the venue and the person(s) doing the mixing. I doubt that I'll go to another Dylan concert – my iPod wins hands down...

I have to be honest. I've heard stories, and I've seen clips, where Bob Dylan doesn't even seem to know WHERE he's playing, much less give a damn. So I have to be honest and say that what I saw Wednesday here in La Crosse was far, far better than what I'd expected. I found myself shocked at his energy, his presence, and yes, even his showmanship. If you'd told me I'd ever see Bob Dylan really and truly "gettin' down" while wailing away on the harmonica, I'd have said You're Nuts. But that's what I saw, and judging from the screams that came from 10,000 throats the other night, I'm not alone in that assessment. I went to the concert mainly for bragging rights, the chance to see a living legend. I may have emerged as a full-blown fan.

Dale Pautzke,
I have followed Dylan my whole life and I am 66. He is number one with me.
However, the LaCrosse concert will be my last, and I have attended many. The sound was lousy! Too loud, unbalanced, Bob's vocals muddy.
The last concert I saw in Telluride, Colorado was much better.
It has always been my dream to meet Dylan before I die, but what would you say in that moment? How's it going Bob?
Better Than Minneapolis
While I loved the concert in Minneapolis, this one was even better. I couldn't figure out what the opening song was (probably my lack of familiarity with the lyrics), but the rest were clear. While there was no speech this time, there was a passion and enthusiasm that was contagious.
He danced around the stage like a happy boy! He played a lot of harp, which I always love, but I don't remember any guitar. My favorites were Forever Young (a slow version), Just Like a Woman, Chimes of Freedom, and When the Deal Goes Down.

Forever young must have been nice. Was it the slow version or the faster version or a remade version. Either way that must have been amazing, it's one of my all time favorite songs from any artist.
Looks like a nice setlist. Makes me want to hit the road and go see him again if he comes close to my hometown.
